Where that customer actually came fromSkąd naprawdę przyszedł ten klient

„How did you hear about us?” „Off the internet.” That exchange happens in every service company in the country, several times a week, and it ends there. Nobody writes the answer down, because the answer is useless.„Skąd Pan o nas wie?” „Z internetu.”

This page is about replacing it with something you can act on — using an afternoon and a spreadsheet, not a new tool.

Why the panel in Google Ads isn’t the answerDlaczego panel Google Ads nie jest odpowiedzią

Google Ads reports conversions honestly. The trouble is what a conversion is: a submitted form, or a click on a phone number. Not a signed job. Between the two there is a quote, a phone call, a price, and a decision — and that is exactly where campaigns stop looking alike.Google Ads raportuje konwersje uczciwie.

Three cases the panel cannot see, and each of them is common:Trzy sytuacje, których panel nie widzi, a każda jest codzienna:

  • Someone saw your ad in March, did nothing, and called in June after a neighbour mentioned you. The panel credits nobody. The neighbour gets the credit in conversation. The ad paid for the neighbour’s opinion.Ktoś zobaczył reklamę w marcu, nic nie zrobił, a zadzwonił w czerwcu, bo sąsiad o Was wspomniał.
  • A call from the Google Business listing and a call from a paid ad look identical on your phone. Both are „from Google”. One of them you paid for.Telefon z wizytówki Google i telefon z płatnej reklamy wyglądają na Waszym telefonie identycznie. Oba są „z Google”. Za jeden z nich zapłaciliście.
  • A phone call carries no tracking of any kind. In this trade that is not an edge case — for many companies it is most of the enquiries.

Three questions instead of oneTrzy pytania zamiast jednego

The single question „how did you hear about us” gives you the last thing the customer remembers, which is usually the last click. Split it up and you get the whole path:Jedno pytanie „skąd Pan o nas wie” daje ostatnią rzecz, jaką klient pamięta, czyli zwykle ostatnie kliknięcie. Rozbijcie je, a dostaniecie całą drogę:

1. Where did you get our number?  ·  2. Did anyone recommend us — who?  ·  3. When did you first hear of us?1. Skąd ma Pan nasz numer?  ·  2. Czy ktoś nas polecił — kto?  ·  3. Kiedy pierwszy raz o nas Pan usłyszał?

Question one gives the channel. Question two catches referrals that hide behind a search, and it names the person — which is worth more than the statistic. Question three separates „found you today” from „has known about you for a year”. Those are two different customers and two different costs. Trzecie oddziela „znalazłem Was dzisiaj” od „wiem o Was od roku”. To są dwaj różni klienci i dwa różne koszty.

Ask all three at the quote stage, not on the first call. On the first call the customer wants a price, not an interview.

How to count it in one afternoonJak to policzyć w jedno popołudnie

step 1krok 1

Take the last fifty completed jobs. Not enquiries. Jobs that brought money in. This is the whole difference between this exercise and the panel.

step 2krok 2

One column: the channel the enquiry arrived through. Keep it to five options — phone, form, Google listing, referral, returning customer. Five is enough; fifteen will make the table unreadable and the conclusion unreachable.

step 3krok 3

Second column: the first contact, where you know it. Leave it empty where you don’t — an empty cell is information, a guessed one is damage.Druga kolumna: pierwszy kontakt, tam gdzie go znacie. Gdzie nie znacie, zostawcie puste — pusta komórka to informacja, zgadnięta to szkoda.

step 4krok 4

Third column: the revenue from that job. Net, the amount actually invoiced.Trzecia kolumna: przychód z tego zlecenia. Netto, kwota faktycznie zafakturowana.

step 5krok 5

Sum the revenue per channel — do not count jobs. A channel that brings four jobs a month at eight hundred złoty is a different business from one that brings one at forty thousand, and counted by the piece they look the same.

Five rows. If you also know what you spent per channel last quarter, put that next to it and you have cost per złoty of revenue — which is the number the budget conversation should actually be about.

What the table usually saysCo ta tabela zwykle mówi

referrals winwygrywają polecenia

The most common outcome, and the most often misread. It does not mean the advertising is wasted. Referrals have to come from somewhere, and that somewhere is customers you acquired earlier — often through advertising. Cutting the ad budget to nothing because „referrals bring everything” usually shows up as a hole eighteen months later.Najczęstszy wynik i najczęściej źle odczytany.

forms, not jobsformularze, nie zlecenia

A channel with many enquiries and little revenue is not a budget problem. It is bringing you the wrong people — wrong area, wrong job size, wrong expectations. More money in that channel buys more of the same.

If one channel carries eighty per cent of revenue, that is exposure, not success. Anything that changes it — an algorithm, a competitor outbidding you, one person retiring — takes eighty per cent with it.Jeśli jeden kanał niesie osiemdziesiąt procent przychodu, to jest ryzyko, a nie sukces.

What this method will not tell youCzego ta metoda nie powie

People misremember. „From Google” often means the listing, or a link a friend sent. Some of your fifty rows will be wrong, and there is no version of this exercise where they aren’t.Ludzie źle pamiętają.

Which is why you should read the table for order of magnitude, not for percentages. „Referrals bring roughly twice what the ads bring” survives a good deal of error and is enough to decide on. „Referrals are 38.4%” does not survive it, and nobody needs it. There is no single true attribution — anyone selling you one number is selling you a simplification. Treat the table as a direction to check next quarter, not as a verdict.

All of the above is done by hand, and doing it once by hand is worth more than reading about it — you find out where this data actually lives in your company, and how much of it lives in someone’s head.

The catch is the same as always: it takes an afternoon, and in a quarter it is out of date. Sensetto is being built to join enquiries from advertising, the form and the phone to the jobs that were actually invoiced, and to recalculate revenue per channel every week.

It does not work yet. We are looking for five first companies.Nie działa jeszcze. Szukamy pięciu pierwszych firm.
